Named after Olive Oatman, the woman with the facial tattoos. She was on her way out west to a new life when her family was massacred in 1851 in what we now call Arizona. Her brother, one of her sisters, and her survived. Her brother was left for dead and her sister and her were taken, her sister Mary Ann eventually passed while in captivity, and eventually Olive was traded to the Mojave people, while she was enslaved she was tattooed, left with a permanent mark upon her face. Her older brother never stopped looking for her and 5 years later she was found. She went on the lecture about her experiences sharing her story with the masses. She was known to be the first white woman photographed on record with a tribal tattoo.
